30 Weeks Pregnant

30 seems like a good number, 30 weeks pregnant that is. Here’s to an awesome week of pregnancy.

What Can You Expect?

Baby at 30 Weeks Pregnant

The hair on your baby’s head is getting thicker as he is starting to shed his weird lanugo hair on the rest of his body. So, it’s kind of like the opposite problem aging men experience, where the hair on their heads mysteriously relocates to the rest of the body.

At around 3 pounds right now, your baby will pack on half a pound per week until go time. If your partner thinks your baby is having hiccups, she’s probably right.

In general, she’s probably right.

Mom at 30 Weeks Pregnant

Your partner should be sleeping on her left side, with a pillow between her legs. This helps her to have better circulation.

She’s likely encountering heartburn and indigestion on the regular, so make sure you’re both eating healthy and avoid greasy foods high in fat.

She’s gaining approximately a pound a week right now, which means her center of gravity is shifting. She may find herself off balance. It’s your job to keep her steady, literally and metaphorically.

You’re going to be a great dad. Seriously, if you’ve read this whole thing, then you probably are either a) a very caring, compassionate person or b) sitting on the toilet and there was nothing else to read (good dads poop too).

Pregnancy Tips for Dad at 30 Weeks

Although you won’t be breastfeeding the baby, there are plenty of things you can be learning how to do now. Watch a video on how to change a diaper, giving the baby a bath, and soothing them so they go back to sleep.

You should start talking about your birth plan.

Who’s going to be in the room where it happens? What kind of medication is she willing to consider? At what point would she consider a Cesarean section? Who’s the father? Just kidding, checking if you’re paying attention.

Have you found a pediatrician yet? You should. If you’re lucky, the doc will be cool enough to call you in a prescription when you’re in your wife’s friend’s wedding in a year or two and you’re jonesing for a Z-pack (hypothetically speaking, of course).
