Baby at 17 Weeks Pregnant
Your baby is learning how to do new things like swallow, suck and blink. Now all you need to do is teach baby how to mow the yard.
In addition, your kid’s baby fat is starting to form. That’s the stuff that makes your baby seem cute, while your spare tire makes you look like you’ve let yourself go. Seems like a double standard.
You might just be working on a mini-Wolverine; your baby’s cartilage is now changing to bone and its skeleton is forming.

This is about the time of the big ultrasound.
Your spouse will be incredibly excited and incredibly nervous. Her doctor will check, scan and measure all of the organs and limbs, and even determine the gender if you’re interested.
Parts of your baby may look undeveloped in the ultrasound.
This is normal!
Your baby is still developing, and you can trust that your doctor will give you a heads up if there are any issues. When the doc tells you what different parts are, just pretend you see it, too.
It’s a magical moment.
Your partner is continuing to gain weight and is in a stage where she may look overweight, but not yet pregnant. If this is the case, keep reminding her she’s beautiful.
She will never get tired of hearing that.
You are doing great! It’s okay to feel a little freaked out. Just make sure to continue to support your partner.
She’s doing the hard work!
Pregnancy Tips for Dad at 17 Weeks
Now is the time for you to start taking the lead in getting the nursery set up.
There’s not a ton else you can do right now, but this will be (and show) a huge help.
Get your tools out. Start painting and assembling furniture. This is a great excuse to go to the hardware store and wander around.
Here’s what not to do this week…
Don’t make comments on her weight. If she asks, continue to tell her she’s beautiful. Do not, we repeat, do not directly mention the weight gain. It’s a trap!
The ultrasound will make all this feel “really real”.
It’s a good idea to chat with your partner before the ultrasound to decide whether or not you want to find out the baby’s gender.
